From Barcelona, where he went to die, Don Ramon Vinyes i Cluet sends the story that gives the title to the work, to his friend Germán Vargas Cantillo to be published in Crónica, the literary-sports weekly that became an organ of expression for all writers, painters, hunters and, above all, friends who were called the Barranquilla Group. The short story is dedicated to Gabriel García Márquez and contains many elements of what would be called, many years later, magical realism.
Written by the Catalan Sage of a Hundred Years of Solitude, the same Vinyes i Cluet, A horse in the bedroom happens in a warm Caribbean city. It is adapted for the cinema by its director Darío Vargas Linares.

Exclusion is a long journey that continues into death. Over the seasons, volunteers organize the burial of people who have experienced living on the street, trying to bring together their families and loved ones so that they do not leave alone, in oblivion and indifference. Each year, about twenty ceremonies are held in the cemetery of Cornebarrieu on the outskirts of Toulouse. A presence, gestures, songs and stories accompany these deceased. Through their presence, which might seem vain, at the funerals of strangers, these volunteers question us on the scope and meaning of such a commitment beyond religious beliefs. By offering a dignified ceremony to the most precarious, they contribute, in a spirit of brotherhood, to honouring their memory.

Nel corso delle stagioni, i volontari organizzano il seppellimento di persone che hanno vissuto per strada, cercando di riunire le loro famiglie e i loro cari affinché non se ne vadano da soli, nell’oblio e nell’indifferenza. Ogni anno, circa venti cerimonie si tengono nel cimitero di Cornebarrieu, alla periferia di Tolosa. Una presenza, gesti, canti e storie accompagnano questi defunti. Attraverso la loro presenza, che potrebbe sembrare vana, ai funerali di estranei, questi volontari ci interrogano sul significato e la portata di un tale impegno al di là delle convinzioni religiose. Offrendo una cerimonia dignitosa ai più precari, contribuiscono, in uno spirito di fratellanza, ad onorare la loro memoria. Perché la vera tomba dei morti è nei cuori dei vivi.
